Hi. I’m a writer in Los Angeles.
From 2014 to 2018, I was at the arts and culture magazine FLOOD, where I started as an intern and ended up as editor-in-chief. (We made real magazines, on actual paper. You can check out a digital version of one I led the development of here.)
Since then, I’ve worked as a freelancer, writing for publications like The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, New York Magazine, The Ringer, The Washington Post, GQ, Stereogum, and elsewhere.
Some highlights:
My 2025 Stereogum feature on the life and death of Pono, Neil Young’s digital music player, was adapted into an episode of the podcast 99% Invisible.
My 2024 investigation into increasing headlight brightness for The Ringer has made me the country’s preeminent headlight reporter, probably; I’ve gone on NPR to discuss the issue, and the podcast Decoder Ring chronicled my reporting in an episode.
My 2024 L.A. Times feature on the inner workings of the Raymond Chandler Estate was placed on the cover of the paper’s Calendar Section. (My dad, Paul Rogers, did the illustration — total coincidence, if you can believe it.)
My 2023 profile of Dril for The Ringer hit the longform hat trick of being recommended by Longreads, Pocket, and The Sunday Long Read.
John Darnielle said my Stereogum story about Pavement’s algorithmic hit, “Harness Your Hopes,” was “one of the best music pieces” he read in 2020, and that has to count for something. The story was later featured in the 2025 Pavement documentary Pavements.
I was interviewed in the CNN documentary Taking On Taylor Swift, which is about the “Shake It Off” copyright battle and the recent boom of music copyright cases — a subject I investigated for The Ringer.
I’ll write for you — journalism, album bios, copywriting, etc. Feel free to reach out.
